>but (stretching) if they are centered with G'Kar's notion of sacrifice, then
they might not be as enraged. Or, better yet, they were just getting shot at
while defending a human charge, whereas G'Kar was going after Londo for
attacking and wiping out an entire Narn outpost - and it was a return to the
old ways "never again".<

This brings up another topic, the willingness of the narn to sacrifice
themselves. Although it was a powerful scene where they all lept in the way of
the fire, and a good number were killed, I found this disturbing. Where they
hit because

a) They don't dodge well

b) G'kar told them that they need to sacrifice themselves

If it's a), then it's easy to see why they lost the centari-Narn war. If it's
b), how could G'kar persuade all of them to sacrifice themselves. Are they that
fanatical. Were they thinkin at all rationally?

What you also have to bear in mind sometimes is that *this* is the only
way to get things done. When the Allies stormed Normandy Beach, they knew that
German bunkers and machine nests and fortified positions were right there on
the beach waiting for them. But they stormed out, onto the beach, and the
first lines were cut down, one after another after another, hundreds, literally
thousands of soldiers. But those behind were able to get through, take up
position as best they could. Some of them clung to the edges of cliffs as
Germans above laughed and threw down grenades into their midst.

Sometimes there's no other way. But you do it because those who command
you have the moral authority to say "You probably will not come back, but the
cause is just, and fair, and necessary."

Thus do we go off to die.

Joe,

I write with "Severed Dreams" fresh in my mind. Actually, I did a
"triple-feature" by watching "Messages" and "No Return" just before "Dreams"
aired.

The impression is overwhelming. I wept and yelled at the TV. My neighbors now
finally *know* I must be nuts.

The space battle can compete with anything shown on the big screen, even Star
Wars. Oh, if only B5 could be seen on a theater screen!

"Dreams", in my opinion, also phrased an exchange that can rival Clark Gable's
famous "GOne with the Wind" quote. When Delenn told the earth ships "Only one
human captain... and you are in front of me!" I was totally stunned. And I most
certainly would have turned tail as well - heck, looking in Delenn's eyes I
would have fled in a Shadow battlecrab!

But please, don't play with Ivanova's life like that again! My heart can't take
that too often! <g>

OK, you can tell I'm getting a bit carried away here, so I'll just stop
babbling.

Anyone who watched and who hasn't "gotten it" yet, just what B5 is and is about
- is hopeless.

Congratulations and may Valen grant us the next and final 2 seasons to the
bittersweet end!

Mike

Cats are nature's way of helping you detect the
people you don't want to know.

Thanks, and thanks especially for the comment about Delenn. She really
hit home here for a lot of people, and the exchange was a good one.

I think we may have done something quite extraordinary here. One hopes
for that, of course, always...but I've finally allowed myself to think we may
actually have done it.

                                                                         jms

[ Summary: Wants to know if there really is a "legal limit" on sound levels
or if JMS is just using a figure of speech. ]

No, there's an actual limit to the frequency/volume you can pack into an
episode. Go over the legal limit and you can get into dutch with the FCC. We
went real near it, but didn't pass it.

                                                                          jms

[ Summary: Wonders why Sheridan calls to the Roanoake at the end of the
battle when that ship had been destroyed by the Churchill ramming her,
when he *really* meant to contact the Agrippa, which was only badly
damaged at the time. Suggests that Sheridan may have been confused
in the heat of battle. ]

Yeah...the reference was kafuffled. There was so much going on, so many
EFX shots, so much rearranging of shots to make everything work (we literally
delivered this 2 hours before the process for uplinking started) that this
slipped past. I'll assume that Sheridan got excited and said the wrong name.
It'd happen to anyone. Right? Right?
