Ignore empty digest "JMS on AOL: 07/09/96 to 07/11/96"

This is a message from the maintainer of B5JMS and B5JMS-DIGEST.

You just received an empty digest from JMS on AOL.  That empty digest is not
a problem on your end.  It is probably, though I'm not sure yet, a bug in
the software that is used to generate AOL digests.  I'm working with person
in charge of these to get the real digest send (if there really were any AOL
messages which JMS posted).

And while I have your attention, allow me to mention two administrivia
notes:

(1) REPLYING TO B5JMS MESSAGES: All replies to b5jms digests are set (via
the "Reply-to:" header) to return to *me*, b5jms-owner at cs.columbia.edu.
That is part of the Majordomo setup and has to be that way, for many
reasons.  Many of you casually reply to messages and not watching where the
reply might go to.  If you don't watch it, your reply or question goes to
me, and I have no alternative but to delete that message.  Sometimes when I
have time (not recently) I will reply back to the user and educate them
about email-etiquette.  But recently there has been a rash of such
misdirected messages, which I can only attribute to a recent surge in new
subscriptions, due to a lull period while in reruns.

If you want your reply or message to go to JMS, or any of the many many
people who post messages which appear on B5JMS, make sure you put the
correct address in the To: field.  Otherwise your messages will not arrive
at their desired destinations.

(2) REPEATED THREADS: I have received several requests from subscribers to
eliminate repeated messages from JMS and others, when a thread becomes very
long, and JMS replies to it multiple times.  One such case was the recent
thread "if you had one question to ask JMS, what will it be".  JMS replied
in that thread almost ten times, and each time the whole thread was sent
out, with 1-2 additional new messages.

I've modified my scripts to trim those repeats.  I am currently testing
these changes, and hopefully within 1-2 weeks, when I'm happy with how the
new script works and with the adjustments I make, I will put it on the main
B5JMS list.
