Joe,
I take it by your "Er...yes.", that you are waiting for the other shoe
to drop. I'd love to see you write another whole season...or two, for that
matter. My concern is what that amount of writing can do to your health, your
marriage, and your writing. I don't presume to know your limits, I just hope
you'll be careful and aware of the life that's going on around you.
Best Always,
Shane

Fm: JOHN L. FJELLSTAD
Is the Minbari warships strong enough to go one-on-one with the Shadow vessels?
I was just thinking about the Minbaris role in the war, and if they were a big
part of the last war a thousand years ago, shouldn't they have developed
weapons strong enough to fight the Shadows considering the fact that they
"knew" that there would be another Shadow war (thanks to Valen/Sinclair).
Since the White Star is a hybrid Minbari-Vorlon ship, does that mean that the
Vorlons are cooperating with the Rangers?
Hope you can answer some of the questions without revealing future plots.
Thanks for a great show!
John

The Vorlons were cooperating in the recent past, yes, and it still takes
a couple of Minbari cruisers under most circumstances to take out an
immobilized shadow vessel, though one can do it if the firepower is
concentrated and prolonged.

JMS,
Just saw Walkabout Thursday night - oh, yeah.
High points - Garibaldi's through chewing out of G'kar - bravo! That
whole scene was tremendous, and brought up things I now need to go back and
rewatch from other eps.
Lyta - wow. When she snarled 'Burn, you bastard', the hair on my arms
and the back of my neck stood up. And those EYES. Geez. So happy that Ms.
Tallman will be around for a while.
Franklin's sub-story - excellent. More than Cailyn getting a look into
him, I think he got a big look into himself - and may be starting to like who
he sees. Sat there crying when he found out about her illness - nicely done,
not over done, not maudlin.
Gotta give the lyrics a thumbs up - great stuff. And they did seem so
pointed, like she was singing right to him.
Kosh mk2 - creepy mutha. The way his ship just sort of popped up to
'see' Sheridan - it recognized him. Sorta like it said, 'Oh, there you are.
Hello!' But the color of the new ship - you almost expect Kosh mk2 to be a bit
less, umm, benign, than Kosh mk1. Intentional?
I give this one an eight - probably because I recently watched several
of my favorites back to back, so my perceptions are colored by them.
Thanks!
Di

What a long-await treat to have a new episode to discuss.
I felt two intersecting themes at work in "Walkabout."
The strongest, and the one signalled in the songs was loss/gain. This echoed
from the personal (Cailyn, Franklin, Lyta) to the societal (Narn, Vorlon).
Many losses were detailed, and some were mourned. But in most cases (if not
all), a way was pointed to at least a partial gain. The loss could never be
entirely recouped, and the way to gain might be a dare-all throw of the dice,
but at least a bittersweet optimism is finally possible.
The second is more of an image (but could turn out to be a full-throttle theme
down the line) -- fragmentation. Cailyn's refracted view through the drinking
glass linked as an image to the "piece of Kosh" and even the Army of Light
itself (as a yet tenuous organization subject to the threat of breakaway or
timorous members). Franklin's relating the concept of "Walkabout" continues
this. Even the "lab experiment" could only succeed if fragments came together
(which led to the DEfragmentation the the Shadow vessel!).
Sidenotes:
- wonderful visual intro of Kosh Prime being preceded by its own shadow. Eerie
linkage to the "shadow" of Kosh's death struggle on the wall.
- Delighted to see Erica Gimpel's work again.
- Jerry Doyle gave Garibaldi an almost incendiary power in his scene with
G'Kar. Also loved his mind-games with Mollari.
- Interesting that Lennier accepts from Sheridan the same hand-on-shoulder
gesture that makes him flare into violence with Marcus.
- Since Sheridan & Co. have some indication as to what is powering the Shadow
vessels, it must give them some qualms whenever they out-and-out destroy one.

Good points, and the fragmentation or fractionalizing is also visually
cued by the last shot of Franklin through the window, split into many versions
of himself.
Re: the hand-on-shoulder gesture, from Marcus it was an upbraiding,
stop-him motion, whereas from Sheridan it was one of congratulation.

No, no super stations carry B5 (except WWOR, and they tend to black that
one out for syndex). But you may be able to catch the uplink.
