Hello,
[this message also posted to rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated]
In an eloquent manner, jmsatb5 at aol.com (Jms at B5) elucidated:
>Syndicated shows can't be/aren't available on dishes of either sort; since
>B5 is syndicated, that leaves us right out.
Thanks for your reply. I originally gave B5 a try because of your net
presence, ie your openness to fans, and I continue to be very glad
that I did!
Congratulations to you and everyone at B5 on the Hugo!
Now, about syndication - it seems to be more complicated than just "is
it syndicated or not". By the way, I didn't want to use up your time
over nothing, so I carefully checked the following by asking net
people for first hand experience of the following reports.
First example: WGN has two different feeds - one locally in Chicago,
which has ST-DS9, and another feed for cable and satellite, which
doesn't have ST-DS9.
HOWEVER, their cable/satellite feed DOES have the Hercules show and
the Xena show which are syndicated.
Second example: the DiSH Network DBS satellite system (aka "Echostar")
carries WPIX, which DOES show ST-DS9 and ST-TNG.
Thus, some syndicated programs (Hercules, Xena) are clearly okay to
transmit, and some syndicated programs which are blacked out on some
cable and satellite superstations are nevertheless shown on others
(DS9, TNG).
Again, some of us who don't live in an area covered by a local B5
station would be willing to buy the DiSH Network system, but don't
want to be disappointed when a month or two later, it is blacked out.
So, I guess the question is - If the DiSH Network satellite system
adds WSBK as they are planning to do, who could/would object to the
resulting transmission of B5 ?
Thanks,
Ken <*>

Oh.
Well, offhand, I can't think of anyone who would...so maybe that would
work.
