Bewitched changed Darrens, and he was as much a major character as
Elizabeth's character was.

Joe,

<I didn't catch the credit, but if so, yeah, that'd be my first as
Joe.>

They have you down under Creative Consultant as Joe Straczynski.
Another oddity I saw in the credits was a Patrick Stewart as Director of
Photography. Can I assume that this was a different Patrick Stewart?

One cute bit I noticed. Was the Joe Straczynski - Master of the
Universe header an inside joke (considering your He-Man stint), or just a
strange coincidence?

Overall, I thought it was very well done. I'm impressed that TNT
would go to all this trouble to introduce the show. The one thing that
bothers me, a little anyway, is that to some people it might seem like TNT is
trying to "Roddenberryize" you a bit. Don't get me wrong. I think you
deserve to get WAY more credit for B5 than Gene got for ST. It just seemed to
me like a conscious effort to bring you into that kind of prominence. Maybe
it's just that I don't think they should HAVE to do that for you since you
should get credit because you deserve it. But maybe I'm wrong and TNT is
doing you the favor BECAUSE you deserve it and they want people to know it.

Yeah, that's a coincidence, they either didn't know about that prior
stint, or it just didn't occur to them.

I find I'm alternately pleased and chagrined by the attention. When I
saw that part of it, I kind of cringed, but what they tell me is that this is
the sort of thing that's useful to promoting the show in general. The firsts
represented by B5 mainly come from the storytelling aspects of it, and that
it's really one vision in an intense sort of way not really done much before.
So that's something they can pin their promotion on. It comes out of their
real respect for what we've done here.

It's very weird to look around one day and discover, by doing what
you've been doing in fair anonymity for as long as you can remember, that
suddenly you're a celebrity, even a minor-league one. You're talking to a guy
here who couldn't get a date in high school, for cryin' out loud....

                                                                    jms

[ Summary: "You all have far too much fun making the show." ]

Yeah, it's a struggle, and hard work, no mistake, but we also have our
fair share of fun as well. What makes it more bearable is that we've
instituted a humane system of film-making. Most shows shoot 16 hour days and
then some. We shoot 12 and that's it. If you plan out what you're doing
properly, and don't get reckless, you can do that. The Directors' Guild has
been fighting for 12 hour days for years, and been told that it couldn't be
done. Then recently they heard about us, and their jaws dropped, and they're
coming out to do an article that says, in essence, see, it CAN be done. And
has been done successfully for 5 years.

                                                                    jms

Doesn't the sound of all those jaws dropping give you a headache? <G>
After all these years, you're still amazing people left and right.

I think the only reason we're still amazing them is that they're only
now finding *out* about us. We're doing what we've been doing for 5 years
now, it's just taken folks this long to notice us (which is about what I
figured would be the case going in).

>Well, it looks like we now have the first real complaint about TNT's handling
of B5.<

It looks as if TNT will not give B5 anymore respect than the independent TV
stations did as to when they will air it. They have to be bettter than WSKB
though. This torked me off too.

This only happened due to the game. There won't be games coming on
before the episodes themselves, so we'll be on time.

And believe me, they've *already* given this show more respect than the
syndicated stations did.
