I was delighted to see that the next B5 book coming down the pipe is being
written by the inestimable Kathryn Drennan, who, in addition to having
impeccable taste in men, wrote one of my favorite B5 scripts, "By Any Means
Necessary". Please pass along my appreciation for, and eager anticipation of,
her work. Are there any other Kathryn Drennan books available? Does she have
an Email address for fan mail?

While she has written prose for Twilight Zone magazine, and other
national publications, and is a Clarion graduate, this will mark her first
novel. It's quite good (having read most of it now), tracking Sinclair's
journey from B5 to Minbar, taking up the role of Ambassador, then transitioning
to head of the Rangers.

This book stands to be the first one (closely followed by Jeanne
Cavelos' forthcoming B5 book) that's 100% canon...to be considered a true
chapter in the B5 storyline.

What's fun about it is that it ties all the books and comics together
with the show, and puts it all in chronological order, and weaves in and out of
events in the second season. I think this is going to be a fan favorite. The
Cavelos book follows Anna Sheridan as she comes to join the crew of the Icarus,
and the details of their fate at Z'ha'dum.

Oh, Joe;

Another quickie about "Epiphanies" while I remember.

Londo is now Prime Minister. On Earth, people in such power are always
escorted by guards when in public. How come he's got no guards on B5?
Especially in their assassination-prone society, and with his newfound
nervousness about reprisals, you'd think he'd demand an escort.

    Just curious.

Thanks,

Because Londo wouldn't abide that for more than five minutes; it'd cramp
his style.

OK,

Let me ask another one... this is more of a "what it might have been about
before the cast changes", but please bare with me - just curious right now!

The Inquisitor
Truly one of the great episodes of the season, so understand this isn't a
criticism of that episode in any sense. But I'm curious, shouldn't he have
been looking for Sinclair? Reason I ask is, now that we've seen the resolution
of the war, I'm at a loss for who the "right person in the right place in the
right time" was supposed to be 1000 years ago. And if the 'younger' Kosh was
present at the end of WWEII, then he knew that the younger races' "savior" for
that war must be found in the future. Hence, a need to be able to find that
right person even though he isn't actually in the right place at the time. And
given the messy causality of time travel, the search for Sinclair had to be a
fairly TOP TOP priority among the Vorlons, to ensure things happened as they
were supposed to.

So while identifying Sheridan and Delenn as the #1 team for this war seemed
appropriate, it would seem that finding Valen might have been the original
reason for the Inquisitor, since The One who became Valen had to have such pure
motives that he would sacrifice not just himself or his people, but his whole
life's context for the mission...

Just another random thought...

No, Valen was a done deal, as far as the Vorlons were concerned; they
knew that that happened/would happen. It was Sheridan and Delenn who had to go
through this...and in Delenn's case, more for her benefit, in some ways.

                                                                       jms

The other books...in broad strokes, I accept they happened, but in the
details, and how they're treated, and some incidentals...they haven't hit all
the right cylinders. This time, with this batch, I got more directly involved
and I think they're definitely improved...though the Cavelos novel had the
least need for input, since she *really* knew the show.
