With the end of Crusade and the great reduction in the volume of
posts by JMS, I have decided the time has come to discontinue
production of the Digest. I will continue to collect and repost any
JMS traffic through at least the end of September, but unless SciFi
(or somebody) picks up Crusade and the message volume increases the
Digest will end no later than the end of this year. What a ride it
has been!

I wonder if it hasn't largely come down to issues of expectations all
around.
TNT obviously expected something more akin to Voyager, which is
largely hooked into the "Battle of the Week" approach. And the less
said about pending guest appearances the better.
Some fans obviously expected something akin to B5 Season 4, which may
go down in history as the most riviting and complex season of TV ever
done. But that is something that requires a lot of buildup - it's not
where you start a series.
A lot of people like me were not sure what to expect and were
therefore relatively open to what came. I find that both approaches
(fast start, slower start) would have worked equally well for me,
because I was willing to give things time to develop.
Which brings us to the "Short Attention Span Theater" syndrome. Most
of the complaints I saw were from people who were expecting something
else and were unwilling to wait and see what developed. This is often
the norm for TV viewers and explains why we get a lot of the cr at p we
do.

This is, unfortunately, all too often all too true.
