How about having deep-thinking, intellectual and diplomatic leaders replaced
by shallow, grinning, war-mongering ones who get their position and power
through family connections?  Oh wait, we've already had that happen!

I saw a piece not long ago on holographic data storage systems using crystals
that looked a lot like datacrystals, and I think we're getting very close to
the technology of links.
