Well, the irony of it is pretty succinct.  Joe has no life about as much as
Harlan has no mouth (and he MUST scream...)

(Oh, in case anyone missed it, "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" is a classic
Ellison work.)

I always thought Joe's background tidbit of Eilerson, as getting knocked down
and being the "talking stain on the floor" was inspired by Harlan...

Get up.  Go to work.  Come home.  Write.  Sleep.  Get up.  Go to work.  Come
home.  Write.  Sleep.  Weekends: write, some sleep.  I've seen one movie at a
theater in the last year (LoTR).  Don't do parties, don't generally get out. 
Know lots of Superman trivia.  No life.
