An impractical and naive suggestion:
I for one would be willing to pay an extra dollar or two (retail) per season
set to compensate the actors and/or producers for their time.  That
multiplied by however-many box sets sold...
However, once you add up the cuts for all the middle-men, that would
probably amortize in one direction to about $2.59 net to the actor.  Either
that, or $1.00 per set in production would somehow, magically add up to
about an extra $50/set to the consumer.  (Or am I just being cynical?)

Not workable, and especially not in advance of sales.
