Problem is, if these policies result in an explosion of middle east
viloence directed toward the United States, it can't be said that they
protected American properties and interests, can they?

This is the one thing that so many people miss. The interests of the
United States and the interests of the rest of the world must not be
considered to be mutually exclusive. But that's how the Bush
administration appears to act.

But of course the administration, which said hitting Baghdad was essential to
protecting American safety, put out the word shortly before the invasion to say
that essentially Americans would be in more danger for an indeterminate amount
of time because of said invasion.

So if the idea was to make us safer...I'd venture to say at some point the idea
no longer applies.
