And the winner is.....

                     IVA

whose guess of $7,585.51 came closest to the final winning bid of $7,211.09.
Whew...quite a bidding war there at the end.

I'm sure everybody knows which item I chose for the next phase of Auction
Mania...that's right, the Battle of the Line medal which just went up for
auction a few minutes ago and can be found here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18839&item=4721482559&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

What I wouldn't give to own this baby! But...since I can't, I'll guess that the
ending bid will be $6,375.00.

After seeing the Captain's jacket go for $10,000 + I'd like to revise
my guess way upward. ...How about $23,578?...Is that crazy high
enough?

Sorry, but I really can't believe what these things are going for. Too
bad it's not for museum, or even better, the money for a fantastic
charity.......

I'll bet that "20kitties" doesn't have the money to pay for the jacket
(why was her last ebay purchase a Crusade box set - if this person is
THAT big of a fan, wouldn't they have got it about a YEAR ago, when it
came out???).

Me bitter? Just because someone backed out of the last auction I ran
last month?

And if that item goes for such a huge amount of money, who's to say it
won't go the same way as all the rest of the B5 costumes so far - cut
into tiny shards and glued onto cardboard "costume cards" and re-sold
to recoup the investment.

Sorry to be such a cynic.

1) How do you know what donations JMS makes or doesn't?

2) It isn't anyone's business what he does with the money he earns from
auctioning off his own property.

Clearly I don't. As you say.vvvvvvvvvv

And you are correct. I really should have worded my statement as "I
hope..." rather than "Too bad..." But even at that, as you say, what
he does is absolutely his buisiness. JMS has worked very, very hard
for his success. He can reap and sow the rewards as he pleases.

I still hope that he is taking some of this and putting back towards
worthy causes. Some projects which he has previously expressed support
for could sure use some help these days...akkkkk...must stop
here...before I turn this political...

worthy causes.

This is the only time I hope to talk about this.

One of the things I almost never discuss is the issue of charities,
because I'm of the school that says what you do, you do privately, you
don't make a show of it. Otherwise you're doing it for all the wrong
reasons...it becomes "looka me, how magnanimous I am!" I've never
believed in that.

So for as long as I can remember, I've always tithed about ten percent
of my income -- sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the work
that year -- to a variety of causes. Mostly women's shelters, some
hospices, Aids Project LA, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, PEN
International, amnesty international, a handful of others. And there's
other stuff that nobody will EVER know about because I do it
anonymously, which is the way it's supposed to be, at least from my end
of things.

And that, I hope, will be the last I ever have to say on the issue.
