For the local B5 folks in and around Charlotte...I'll be there for the
Heroes Convention the weekend of June 30th, doing a lot of signing,
some panels, my usual one-person song and dance (minus the singing and
dancing, natch).

Also, being up to my tuchis in deadlines and general nonsense, I forgot
to put out a note that volume 8 of the B5 scripts went up yesterday,
which has the last few scripts from season three, including obviously
our season finale "Z'ha'dum," and the first batch of scripts for season
four. What's really cool is that, in addition to the new intro --
which reveals for the first time how we literally nearly lost the show
because of an accounting error, among other cool stuff -- features a
bunch of full pages of Peter Ledger's original concept art for B5,
including the first drawings of our characters at that time, as well as
the world of B5 itself. Most of it has not been seen before, certainly
not in anything more than postage size images on a PTEN flyer.

There may also be some interesting announcements coming soon on the
film/tv front. Whether or not I will be able to talk about them by
Heroes Con, I don't know, but if not, certainly by San Diego (by which
time a lot of it will have been announced in the trades anyway). No
fair guessing, because trust me, most of this is stuff that can't be
guessed.

It occurred to me yesterday that we haven't heard anything about Masters
of Science Fiction in the networks' fall schedule announcements... has
that been pushed back? What can you tell us about that?

Jonathan Frakes to Direct Masters of Science Fiction Episode, Harlan
Ellison Adaptation
By GustavoLeao / 13:02, 15 June 2006 / General Genre/SciFi

Star Trek The Next Generation actor/director Jonathan Frakes will
direct a segment of Masters of Science Fiction TV Series entitled "The
Discarded", based on a short story by Harlan Ellison (who wrote TOS
classic episode"The City on the Edge of Forever"), scripted by Ellison
and Josh Olson (Academy Award-nominee A History of Violence).

Ellison posted this on his discussion board on Monday:

"Josh's and my "The Discarded" will shoot in Vancouver July 23rd to
August 6th, approximately. I'll likely go up there for the shoot. Oh,
and by the way, it'll be aptly directed by Jonathan Frakes. Produced by
Keith Addis."

The story deals with a ship of mutants that have been exiled from Earth
due to their ugliness. An Earth representative seeks their cooperation
when they are the only hope of curing a disease on the home planet.

The story was published in 1959 and anthologized in Ellison's Paingod
and Other Delusions. He indicated that he's very proud of the
adaptation.

I've done two new essays in the last week; and Josh's and my "The
Discarded" will shoot in Vancouver July 23rd to August 6th,
approximately. I'll likely go up there for the shoot. Oh, and by the
way, it'll be aptly directed by Jonathan Frakes. Produced by Keith
Addis.

...

Still truckin', Yr. pal, Harlan

Keep an eye on the Hollywood trades for the coming week. (It could
slop over into the following week, but I doubt it.)

One of the biggest things to happen to my career is about to happen.
