Dear SOSP'26 Registration Chairs,
I am writing about the registration requirement for accepted workshop
papers.
Our paper, "To Migrate or Not to Migrate: KOxI, an Evidence-Gated
Pipeline for Rust-for-Linux Storage Drivers" (DOI
10.1145/3837053.3837340), was accepted at HotStorage'26, the 18th ACM
Workshop on Hot Topics in Storage and File Systems, co-located with
SOSP'26 in Prague. The authors are myself and Tomaz Mikio Sasaki, both at
Instituto de Tecnologia e Liderança (Inteli), São Paulo, Brazil. I have
already registered for Conference + Workshops at the student rate, under
my ACM student membership; the registration is in my name, using this
email address.
I have since seen the reminder that each accepted paper must have at
least one full (non-student) workshop registration. I understand this to
be a requirement on the paper rather than on the rate any individual
author is entitled to, so I would like to confirm how we can best satisfy
it:
1. Does the non-student workshop registration have to belong to the
author who attends and presents the paper, or is the requirement
satisfied as long as one of the co-authors holds one?
2. My co-author, Tomaz Mikio Sasaki, is not a student and is willing to
take a workshop-only non-student registration, but is unlikely to
travel to Prague. Would that registration satisfy the policy on its
own, with me attending and presenting the paper under my current
registration? In other words, does the requirement concern the
registration itself, or actual attendance by the non-student
registrant?
3. If neither option applies, would a waiver be possible in our case? We
are a small group at a Brazilian undergraduate institution without
conference travel funding, and the difference between the student and
non-student Conference + Workshops rates is roughly EUR 600, which is
substantial for us on top of intercontinental travel.
If no waiver is possible I will of course upgrade my own registration to
the non-student rate. I would simply like to be sure which option
actually satisfies the policy before making the change, so that we do not
pay for a registration that turns out not to.
I am happy to provide my ACM member number, my registration confirmation,
or any other detail that helps you locate the booking.
Thank you very much for your time.
Best regards,
Guilherme Lima
