Hey, my name's Mark -

I've been using linux for coming up on 5 years. The first distribution
that I ever used was called 'armedLinux'. It was one of the first
distrubutions that would run on top of windows. Now I'm running Mandrake
9.0 on my currently broken desktop (if anyone has an old geForce2 video
card or something comparable that they're trying to get rid of, shoot me
an email), debian is on my P200 server at home as well as on my current
machine, this P90 laptop. :o) I have a windowsXP partition on my
desktop, but I'm thinking about sending it packing in favor of a second
linux partition that I can use to try gentoo again. I believe in free
software. I think that it truly produces better software than a
proprietary alternative. While I recognize the flaws in a purely open
source business model, I see a future where basically all programs that are
required (OS, GUI, web browser, office suite, etc) are created by a joint
effort of many companies who have other sources of cash. This can already
be seen as many companies employ people who are working on the linux
kernel to work on the linux kernel. Besides, free software has been doing
fine without making money so far - why stop now?
