Mmmmm. gcc? It should already be installed. Did you select the
'Development' category during the installation? If not, it may be a
little complicated adding it. I think 'redhat-package-config' will help
you automatically install everything needed for development off the
installation CDs.

I also use Synaptic, which is a GUI package management utility that
performs automatic dependency checking and gets stuff off the network.
(Freshrpms provides a 'repository' of the Redhat packages, plus
additional software pre-configured and ready to install off the
network.) They also have fixes for all the stuff Redhat left out of
their distribution, like MP3 support, ALSA drivers (Advanced Linux Sound
Architecture), and playing encrypted DVDs.

For Redhat 8 you'd go to http://psyche.freshrpms.net
Download and install the Synaptic RPM.
Start Synaptic and install to your heart's content.

Why not just use the player from Real? Here's the link for RealPlayer
8--it is hard to find from the Real web page. I would just select the
RPM version.

	http://scopes.real.com/real/player/unix/unix.html

If you select linux-2.x (not RPM) instead, when you go to the download
page there will also be a link to download the Realplayer 9 alpha
version if you want to try it.

Also, mplayer is supposed to support RealAudio/Realvideo formats,
according to their site
	http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design6/info.html
but I can't vouch for it. I just use the Realplayer player.

Let us know if you run into trouble.

Cheers,
