apt-get is considerably different from redcarpet in that you can install
any package that is available for debian through it. If I remember
correctly redcarpet is only for programs offered by ximian. I will
concede that red carpet and ximian in general is really great for people
who are new to linux. But, red carpet doesn't come close to offering
the power that apt-get does. There are gui frontends available for
apt-get such as 'synaptic' which helps with apt-get's usability. But,
in general I find opening up a terminal window and typing 'apt-get
install anything' to be much quicker. If you have a spare computer or a
spare partition sitting around I really recommend giving debian a spin.
Oh, and I think it would be great if you brought that Linux doll along.
If you are working get in touch with me and we can make arrangements
for the club to borrow it for Wednesday. I'm going to compusa tomorrow
and I'm going to get some CD labels and a bunch of those paper CD
sleeves. We still don't have an extension cord though. If nothing
comes up I could always pick up an extension cord before the fair, but
if someone else has one that would be great.
