Sendmail is configured by default not to relay mail, that is it will only
accept messages for local addresses unless it is coming from a trusted IP
address.
To edit the list of hostnames that Sendmail thinks belong to it modify
/etc/mail/local-host-names (this may be wrong with other versions grep for
'^Fw' and see what file is listed, it may be /etc/mail/sendmail.cw).
To edit the list of IP addresses that Sendmail will trust, you should
modify /etc/mail/access. Be careful when doing this, you do not want to
allow arbitrary hosts to use your machine as a relay. It sucks up your
internet bandwidth, and is bad for the 'net as a whole since it helps
spammers to send more crap to all of us.
