Yes, but I'm told that some of the CS areas are specifically designated for
CS undergraduates to be able to access. You might check with Brian
(brian at cs) about this; he's the head of IT group that manages the CS
systems.

I'm currently putting together a VPN-Wireless-at-Stonybrook mini-HOWTO.
I'll post it to the mailing list and add it to the group Wiki as soon as
it's done. (Soon, very soon).

Short answer: No open access.

Wireless access on campus ( i.e. other than the CS department) is via a
VPN (Virtual Private Network), which means you can't just connect and
go. You first have to request a username and password, pick it up,
install VPN software on your laptop, get it configured, etc. Then when
you want to connect, you first start your normal networking, *then* run
an additional app to connect to the VPN.

Access is available in the main lobby and the lounge in the SAC
(personally tested), and also supposedly in the Library and the Student
Union, although I haven't personally tested there.

For a nano-HOWTO:
	1. email telnet at notes.cc.sunysb.edu with your name, SBID, and phone,
requesting VPN access. Get your username and password from them.
	2. Go to pptpclient.sourceforge.net and install all necessary software
( mppe kernel mods, mppe, pptp-linux, pptp-php-gtk ).
	3. Connect.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to get the ball rolling with the e-mail even
if you want to wait for a full HOWTO before trying to connect.

Cheers,
