[LUGSB] Network profiles

I don't know of any clean way to do that. I once solved the problem by
having a shell script that takes as an argument the profile I want to set:
then the script would overwrite ifcfg files, sendmail.cf, and all sorts of
other files, then restart services. Inelegant but effective.

In debian you can have a number of virtual devices for example "eth0-home,
eth0-lab", "eth0-dhcp". You then write a mapping script defines the "real"
interfact (eg. eth0) that writes the name of the profile to use to
standard output.
I can send you my /etc/network/interfaces file if you want.

LUGSB's long awaited install-a-thon is this afternoon,November 20th @
6:30pm in CS room 1211. I strongly recommend to anyone who is undecided
about bringing their computer to the meeting for an install, bring it
down. We promise not to hurt your computer. I'm bringing down copies
of Mandrake 9.2, Fedora Core 1, and Red Hat 9. If anyone has any copies
of other distributions, please bring them along. Depending on how many
installs we do tonight, Adam may give a talk about networking and X
windows, which promises to be very interesting. I hope to see many of
you down at the meeting tonight.
Later,
Mark.
