www.freshmeat.net will become your frind. You cna get a lot of apps for
Linux from there.

A few progs that I use on a daily basics are:

xmms - it's a WinAMP kind of app that will play mp3 and CDs
xine - I use it to play DVDs and other movie media
mplayer - to play DivX and such
gnelemixer - is the sound mixer I use

For office use OpenOffice at www.OpenOffice.org looks just like MS Word
and Excel
For AIM chat I use Gaim at http://gaim.sourceforge.net/
For FTPing I use gFTP looks just like WS_Ftp

If you have Red Hat you should have a lot of progs that came with it too.
But when you go to download your progs, download the RPM for your RedHat
and install it using the rmp command. More on that by typeing "man rpm"
at the prompt. Don't forget that Google.com is your frind too. Do a
search on how to install rpm and such if you get lost.

I'm sure the rest of the guys are gonna throw a bunch more of apps you
can use... those are just some I coulf think of right now :)
