I think this is important, and should be something that we can have on
the webpage. Defining our organization well is a useful way to attract
members. Here is a proposed rough draft:
LUGSB (Linux Users Group @ Stony Brook) exists to promote the use of
Linux, Open Source, and Free (as in freedom) Software both on and off
campus. LUGSB also provides an environment open to all who wish to
learn how to use, and understand free software. We have meetings twice
a month, where we discuss the latest open source developments andother
topics of interest. Often members present informal tutorials on a
variety of topics. Past tutorials include X11 tricks, the GNU Privacy
Guard. Other events we have held are Install-a-thons, a screening of
Revolution OS, and handing out KNOPPIX at the student involvement fair.
