[LUGSB] Last Meeting & ICON

Hey,

The pictures from last meeting are up on the website. [1] Also, ICON [2]
is rapidly approaching. I figured that we could have another
install-a-thon at ICON. That should be fun. But, I would also like to
hold a panel (which is basically a loosely structured conversation
between a few people in the front of the room and the audience)
regarding some aspect of Linux. I figured a title like, "The current
state of Linux" would be good. It sounds pretty lofty and is general
enough that it would be pretty hard to get off topic. Now, we just need
4 or 5 people to be on the panel. ICON runs from March 26-28. I would
like to have the install-a-thon after the panel so that we might be able
to boost attendance to the install-a-thon. Anyway, if you are
interested in being on the panel I have to know ASAP. If I can't get 4
or 5 people to help out, we won't be able to do the panel, and that
would suck. Being on the panel would likely also entitle people to free
admission into ICON which usually runs around $30 (I'll find out about
this soon). Please get back to me ASAP if you are interested.

Thanks,
Mark.

Has anyone ever tried to sync their cell phone with linux? I'd love to get my phonebook and calendar of my Motorola v66 and into jpilot or something similar.
I found http://www.suspectclass.com/~sgifford/startalk/ , but am hesitant to drop $60 if its not going to do me any good. Do any of you have any experience with motorola's TruSync software? Do you think I'd have any luck installing vmware and windows and trying to access the serial/usb port via vmware? I haven't used vmware in a couple of years, but the datasheet for workstation4 mentions usb support.

Your best bet is to try it under wine first. vmware is another option.
$60 is alot for software to sync your cellphone but hey im cheap :]
