Hey everyone,

ICON is coming up this weekend. The festival runs from Friday (3/26)
afternoon to Sunday night (3/28). The LUGSB events are on Saturday
night. The panel that we're holding titled 'The current state of Linux
and Open Source Software' is running from 5pm-6pm on Saturday. The
install-a-thon is immediately after that from 6pm-9pm. Both events are
being held in the Old Chemistry Building room 138. I've arranged to
borrow the projector from LILUG. So, we'll be able to use that during
the panel and perhaps during part of the install-a-thon.
I think we would be best suited pushing Fedora Core 1 as the recommended
distribution during the install-a-thon. I used to recommend both Red
Hat and Mandrake, but Mandrake 9.x is a little old and I personally
haven't used it in a while. It seems like Fedora Core 1 has the most
recent software with the most user-friendly installer and easiest tools
to keep it up to date. We'll also probably be handing out lots of
copies of Knoppix. It would be great if anyone with a few spare CDs
could burn a copy of Fedora Core 1 or a few copies of Knoppix 3.3. I've
got a stack of CDs and I'm going to try and churn out a bunch of
Knoppixes and Fedoras. But, I'm always afraid of running low.
We also will be attending the undergraduate recruitment event (which was
conveniently scheduled for the same day). We'll be handing out Knoppix
there as well. Anyone interested in coming down should just drop down
the computer science building in between 12 and 2pm. It'll be good fun.

That's all for now,
Mark.
