Hi guys,

Dont know if this issue was raised earlier but now
that redhat is out and whitebox (the recompiled
version of redhat but free) is available, have any of
you tried that?

In specific Im concerned about the support and
stability issues from a longterm standpoint and
available wireless drivers (for my IBM laptop T41 to
be specific) , when compared with mandrake , suse or
other distributions. Im kind of new to linux as
compared to most people here, so would appreciate some
brief review on what to go for

Thanks,
amol

Hey Everyone,

Two quick things to mention:

1) We need a treasurer. The guys who were supposed to be secretary and
treasurer have gone MIA and we can't register the club with a secretary and
treasurer. Luckily John, the secretary from last year has agreed to resume
that role again this year, but we still need a treasurer. So if anyone who
was in the club last year, is still here, and would like the illustrious
title of 'temporary treasurer of the Linux Users Group at Stonybrook' should
please contact me by tomorrow.

2) Renan, John, and I were talking and we agreed that it might be a good idea,
since we haven't had any meetings, to have a get together this week. This
would not be a normal meeting with a specific topic or anything but just an
opportunity for newer members to meet older members and discuss whatever
comes to mind. I was thinking maybe this Wednesday or Thursday evening
around 7 o'clock would be good. If that sounds like a good idea then just
post to the list and let me know. But the one caveat is that we don't really
know where this can happen. I'm hoping that nothing is going on at The
University Cafe on one of those night because that would probably be a good
place. So possible locations for this should also be posted to the list.

Have a good week everyone,

Dan.

I vote for Wednesday. If we are just doing organization, we can
probably meet in the CS lobby, since there are chairs and tables now.

That could be more conducive to a meeting than the University Cafe,
which as I recall requires ID (or at least starts to at some point in
the evening).
