Hey guys-
I wrote a couple of weeks ago, complaining about not being able to set
permissions on files or folders on my 2nd hard drive -- I keep all of my
documents and music on the second partition of a WinXP drive (it's all
FAT32, not NTFS). No matter what I tried, I couldn't permanently give
myself ownership or write permissions. As soon as I'd restart, same
problems arise. I'm running FC3 on an ASUS A7N8X-e with an Athlon
XP2800, 1GB DDR, a WD400JB and WD400BB.
It's udev - run apt-get or let up2date download and install the new
version. Problem solved. This also resolves the "the cd player is
unable to run correctly" and "you do not seem to have permission"
problems with grip and gnome-cd on a fresh FC3 install, and relieves you
from having to set explicit permissions using fstab. After the update,
I just ran nautilus as root and changed permissions in the GUI.
By the way -- you CAN play MP4 files with xmms (since we're on the
subject...) just apt-get install libmp4.so and xmms can be playing all
those songs you ripped with iTunes before you set encoding options to
MP3.
