I'll throw in here that I use OpenVPN on my laptop to connect with my 
secure mail server, which among other things allows me to send email 
through that server regardless of what connection my laptop is using.  
OpenVPN was easy to setup (followed the HOWTO), and it comes with a nice 
init script that makes everything automatic.
