Like Nick mentioned, you can install KDE in Debian simply be apt-getting
it. Configuring X is no problem at all if your hardware is supported in
4.3.0. It doesn't do much auto-detection, but if you know what driver
to use it's a snap.
I recently complied X.org (mainly for the updated drivers and eye-candy)
and that was really easy to setup too.
