Here's a bit of a joke at my expense.

I was mucking about on sparky, trying to get bash as my default shell,
and suddenly a strange problem cropped up. Whenever I executed the
"which" command, I'd arrive back at the command prompt--no output, no
failure message. Bad UNIX.

Then I tried switching back into csh, since I'd been playing with .*rc
files. As soon as I exited bash, I got the output of which--and another
bash prompt. And another, and another....

When I finally got back to csh and tried using which, I still got no
output. However, I did get my bash prompt. (Okay, you misunderstood me,
but we can work it out....)

So on a hunch I went into ~/.cshrc and deleted the 'bash' entry, logged
out and back in, and that issue disappeared. But I am left in the
fustilarian darkness of ignorance as to the cause.
