Thanks Mark for posting this.

Google SoC is a very interesting way of getting to contribute to Open
Source. I know that there is at least one person on this mailing list who
did SoC last year, and as far as I know he enjoyed it.

And of course, contributing means that your name will be out there for
people to see. I think that this is a great way to get started, if you want
to work for a company doing open source development.

I see, a shameless plug for Gnome, Thanks Mark ;)

Just for the record, there are many open source projects of all different
types of software - ranging from desktop environments to version control
systems to kernel code.

Also, if you happen to be active in a open source project, I'd suggest that
you mention SoC to the people who run in. It is a great way to get work
done, and have more people exposed to your software.
