We want to be OS neutral (pick the best OS) but its only logical to use Linux,
because, as you said its easy to tweak. Also we have experience with it .. and
we can steal systems configs from the Galaxy or Seawulf clusters.

Right now we're just looking for anyone who is interested, but ideally
candidates should be familiar with as many of these topics as possible:
Shell Scripting
Compiler optimization (choosing best compilers .. flags and options)
Experience with any software which can help automate this process
hardware
Selecting hardware (Best performance per watt)
Assembly and all that jazz
Kernel Optimization (maybe driver tweaking)
Networking
topologies
Tweaking switches
NetBoot
DHCP/DNS
Monitoring software
Ganglia/Nagios/cacti
Any of the following applications:
POVRAY divide and conquer
GAMESS
Gromacs (Folding at home)
CFD code fluid dynamics open source or finite element. (Boing)
This is by no means a complete list. If you feel like you can contribute to the
team in any way I urge you to contact us.
We can arrange a general meeting either in real life or on irc (or both). Within
the next couple of weeks to address any questions. I'd assume meeting over IRC
would be more convenient given that most students are off campus during this time.
