I'm interested in helping with an installfest, including installing on
any Apples. I'll have to put linux back on mine just to show off,
though (recently had to reformat and I've just got an empty partition)
I ran gentoo on mine as you mentioned, but ubuntu recently has gotten
good support for the apples as well.
To whoever was interested in getting linux on their apple laptop, get
an app like SuperDuper
(http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html)
and back up your entire OSX system to an external USB drive _before_
bringing it in to be messed with.
I've never messed up a system yet, but better safe than sorry. The
backup took about four hours on my laptop.
