I'm definitely not interested in moving to a 3rd party over this, I don't
need to exchange one horrible hassle for another. If I had more spare time
and more things to do with a server it might be a different situation, but I
don't want that level of responsibility or complexity.
Disaster just struck. The POP account I set up on thunderbird deleted my
entire inbox. I'm actually *fortunate* that it didn't grab anything besides
my inbox in the first place. The worst part is that I specifically suspected
it might do this, so I refreshed webmail to make sure everything was still
standing before I deleted the thunderbird account. I guess webmail must
cache messages for the entire session.
This is perhaps one of the most absurd battles against technology I've ever
personally experienced.
I think I'm settling on managing my gmail the same as always, through the
web interface, and dealing with my sparky account through thunderbird, using
the web interface only for reading new messages, without applying any
labels/folders/whatever. If I can just sync between my laptop and desktop, I
think I'll be happy, but before I even get to that point, I need to clean up
this account and get it in a usable state, then work on accessing it from
just one machine at a time.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go kick a puppy.
Jon
