[LUGSB] Shutting Down

You would type "shutdown -h now" to Halt the system, or as you've figured  
out, "shutdown -r now" to Restart it. If the system is persistant and  
doesn't turn off, you could also try "shutdown -P now", which specifically  
tells the sysem to Power off. You could also replace "now" with an integer  
to indicate how many minutes from now it will shutdown, or a time in  
military format (17:38, etc) to specify it to shutdown at that specific  
time. "shutdown -c" will Cancel any pending shutdown operations, in case  
you've changed your mind.
