They are testing to see if you know how to open Word document files in OpenOffice.org!  Reason: Customers write specs in Word documents, and THE PROJECT MANAGER TAKES THE REQUIREMENTS FROM THE CUSTOMER AND GIVES IT TO THE ENGINEERS.*

If a company is big enough, the HR folks use whatever they are familiar
with, even if the rest of the company is Linux happy.

I've seen my fair share of .docs, and at times I even pondered replying to
the HR folks telling them that looking for Linux people by sending out .docs
may not be the best way to get the best minds. In the end I didn't because
I couldn't really find the time, and before I knew it weeks have passed.
