[LUGSB] Upcoming Events

Hello!

I'd like to announce a few upcoming events associated with LUGSB.

In date order:

 * First Meeting - September 12th, 5-7, CS 2311
I've sent out an email about this meeting earlier, with an agenda,
please refer to that for more information.

 * Involvement Fair - September 17th, 12-3, SAC Plaza
The USG is holding an Involvement Fair on the 17th, and I've reserved
a table for LUGSB.  We will have flyers, mailing list signup sheets,
and possibly a banner.  We need volunteers to help staff the table,
hand out flyers, and answer questions.  If you'd like to help out,
please contact me.

 * Ice Cream Social - September 19th, 5-whenever, CS Lobby
This event is a joint event held by LUGSB, SBCS (Stony Brook Computing
Society) and WiCS (Women in Computer Science) with the goal of
promoting awareness of all three clubs.  There will be free ice cream,
socialization, and some short presentations about the three clubs and
what they do.  Everyone is welcome.

 * Career Fair Corporate Networking Mixer - September 24th, 9:30-11,
SAC Auditorium
As you all should know by now, there is a Career Fair on September
25th, organized by the Career Center and CEAS.  Plenty of employers
will be there.  The Fair itself starts at 12 and continues into the
afternoon.

However, there is also a Corporate Networking Mixer in the morning,
9:30-11, where you can have a chance to meet the employers in a more
personal setting and discuss their business and any opportunities they
might have.  Light refreshments will be served, and business formal
attire is required (ie. suit+tie).

If you're interested in attending the Mixer, please let me know as
soon as possible.  In order to attend, I'll need a copy of your Resume
to put into a booklet presented to the employers, and I only have a
limited number of slots available.  The deadline for this is fast
approaching, so if you're the least bit interested, please let me know
as soon as possible.

 * Field trip to IPSoft - October 3rd.
IPSoft is global IT Consulting firm based in downtown Manhattan with
considerable Linux-based infrastructure and service offerings.  The
company has extended an offer to LUGSB to provide a tour of their
operations facility.  The tour will take place at 1pm on Friday,
October 3rd.  Their facility manager will cover their operations
infrastructure, and answer any questions you might have.  IPSoft *is*
looking to hire talented Linux engineers, so this is partially a
recruiting effort on their part, but even if you're not interested in
working for them, the experience will probably still be valuable and
interesting.

If you're interested in attending, please let me know so I can work
with the Career Center to finalize plans for transportation, and other
details.  If you have any questions, please let me know, and I can
also relay any IPSoft-related questions also.
