Hello,

My name is Mark Drago and I founded LUGSB back in 2002. The company
which I'm working for now, Bascom, is looking to bring on an intern
for the Fall semester.

Here's a quick overview of Bascom and what we do. We're a small
company (~20 employees) located in Hauppauge. Our main goal is to get
Internet resources to be used in educational settings including
schools, libraries, and in the home. We do this by providing a family
of products. Our two main products are the Global Chalkboard which is
an internet filter / content-management system that gets installed on
the premises of schools and libraries, and the Web Library which is a
portal site that categorizes and rates web sites for their educational
use. The Global Chalkboard software that we sell is distributed as a
Linux distribution that we've constructed and maintain, along with our
custom apps like the filtering proxy and the web gui used to
administer it. The Web Library runs entirely on Linux and other open
source software. To put it simply, we're a Linux shop.

We're looking for an intern who is comfortable with Linux. Any
programming experience is great but not mandatory: perl, python, php,
shell, etc. Don't worry if you don't know all of them, we use each of
these somewhere in our business and you'll be helping out wherever you
can and learning as you go. I learned Perl when I was interning here
at Bascom. Some of the things that you would be working on depending
on your skill set are: rpm packaging, distribution maintenance &
upkeep, web site work, test case writing, performing test cases, and
many other possible tasks. We're looking for someone who can put in
16-20 hours a week or more. We're flexible with the schedule as long
as the chunks of time spent here fall between 8am and 6pm.

If you're interested in the internship please send your resume to:
linuxjobs at bascom.com with a subject line of: 'Linux Internship'. Be
sure to include any personal projects on your resume. Experience is
experience.

If you have any questions about the internship and/or Bascom please
mail me off-list at mdrago at bascom.com.

Thanks,
Mark Drago
