I'm wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the video clips (AVI files)
on the Babylon 5 CD? My wife purchased it yesterday and while browsing the CD
we noticed that several of the movie clips didn't work.

I noticed that glctcd04.avi, shpdta08.avi, shpdta09.avi, and shpdta10.avi are
all less than one second in length, according to media player, and the avi
files in the Persnnel directory just make a strange noise. I'm courious if we
got a bad CD or if they are all that way.

Thanks

David

Fm: J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI

No, the .avi files work in tandem with another file, to make it work.
You'll note that shpdta08.avi comes alongside shpdta09.dat (or some other
extension), which contains the info. If you install it from the disk, it
usually works fine. The scrittching sound on the personnel data is the
identicard scanner sound, which goes with the identicard readout.

                                                                   jms

I'm still not sure I understand the question. The B5 videotapes for sale
in the UK are definitely licensed. We never sell any episode on film to anyone
for any reason, here or otherwise. Nothing's been out on disk yet.

I am glad to see the Centari thread playing along the lines I thought it would.
I am suprised that the attack did not come through and that Londo is planning
against it, you caught me cold on that one!

I am wondering if we are going to see Bester as more of a good guy? I made this
prediction before 'Dust' but it did not quite make it. I am wondering how we
will think of him after 'Ship of Tears'. I must say that you get more wheels
inside wheels than any author I have ever read (even the 'Amber' series).

If I am reading this pause right you must be ready for a real big one, I can
hardly wait. You know, this is the way TV should be. Not just SF, but most of
it. The progressive story moving to an end, the continuing sub-plots and such.
I look forward to the new shows, but in doing so the old shows filter into my
thoughts. The old shows then become better as now I understand them.

When I was young I liked WW2 history. The stories and people were just beyond
my day to day life. I am wondering if that is how I will look at B5 when it is
over and in reruns? The nobel cause of the war, the cost still uncounted.

Fm: J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI

Exactly, the older shows take on more substance, weight and interest the
more you've seen after them. All kinds of stuff jumps out at you after a
while. As for Bester...no matter what, it's fair to say he's on nobody's side
but his own.

                                                                      jms

Yeah, it's a long way from Captain Power.

No, no direct involvement with Hypernauts, though they're one of several
shows now on the air or in development that are now using the Babylon 5 model
for producing TV shows.

Whoa!--
First of all, I'm flattered that you'd take notice of this thread and reply!
I think I was assuming something along these lines: Originaly you had Sinclair
as the lead character for the whole 5 years, right? There was even a hint of a
Sinclair/DeLenn romance in "Parliament of Dreams" as I recall.
Then you swapped out Sinclair for Sheridan. Now the same events of your arc
are still on track, I assume, and I can't imagine you'd change your lead
character's reaction to EVERY SINGLE incident. I imagine Sheridan in The Coming
Of Shadows is doing prety much the same things Sinclair would have done in the
same circumstances. Some of this is logical because a certain situation
determines a certain reaction, but , to use the example of the US navy, 2
captains might react to the same situation in 2 very different ways.
For purposes of your story, obviously, you had to keep it on track because if
you don't, the shadows win, and, well, damn. So much for that "humanity" thing
<G>
I don't dislike the cast changes. In the case of Talia, I REALY liked the way
it was done, and one of the things I always abhored about The Show That Rhymes
With Dreck was the static (And rather 1-dimentional) nature of it's cast. I
think I've just been hyper-aware of how quickly the cast changes since Points
of Departure. Ivonova and Franklin were the only ones we realy recognized
there, and it was realy Realy REALY frightening because we simply didn't know
how much of the change that you had planned out and how much of it was being
"Galactica 1980ed" upon you.
Lemme tell you, as an avid viewer, that was a scary week for me!

Anyway, thanks for responding!

Admiral Randy

PS- officialy, whatever happened to Na'toth and Lou Welch? <G>

We'll be mentioning Na'Toth later this season.

Actually, the relationship with Sinclair and Delenn wasn't designed to be
romantic; he was involved with Sakai, and would've stayed that way for the most
part. The relationship you saw is not quite what you're thinking; there is a
closeness, but not based on romantic feelings. You'll catch a sense of what's
behind this more later this season.

                                                                       jms

Aha! Okay...the reason that the tapes haven't been released by WB Video
here in the US...is that they don't think anybody's interested in buying them.

Now, in the UK, the videos are usually in the top ten or so on the
sell-through charts.

Somehow, the video folks seem capable of looking at those two items and
fail to see a contradiction.

      'Tis a wonderment to me....

Space Cases uses a variation on the 5-year arc, a lot of what they're
doing with their sets and CGI and other areas nods to B5...and there are two
new shows in the works that very definitely rely on the B5 model, though I'm
not at liberty (as a courtesy to them) to discuss them at this time.
