Well, this is an interesting turn of events --B5 merchandising! This is
something I'm enthusiastic and in favor of, but it's something the B5 franchise
has said it wasn't interested in from the beginning. There was even a stabbing
comparison to Trek's *over* merchandising factor. Peter David poked fun at it
with his, "This is no Deep Space franchise!" remark on the part of Ivanova in
one episode. <g> However, now they're going that route. There's no way I can
blame JMS for wanting to profit off of his well conceived, well thought out,
very entertaining universe. After all, what's wrong with this? It's the fruits
of his labor, so why not? He's earned, for cryin' out loud! <bg> I guess you
can say that my mind is made up on this. <bg>
I take it you read the announcement, presumably from Netter Digital,
which spoke about the coming line of merchandise.

Never said I never wanted to do *any* merchandising...what I've always
said was that I wanted to do a little, here and there, adding a bit as we go
along, but doing so gradually, so we could control the quality of the items, to
make sure that fans didn't get stuck with crummy stuff.

Mainly, I approve to merchandise anything that I think is either very
cool, or which I'd like to have myself.

Joe,

It depends upon the adapter. Which one do you have?

I'm running a US Robotics Sportster ISDN board (internal) that came with Win
3.1; Win95 and WinNT drivers. Updated drivers are posted on USR's Web site. I'm
running Win95 primarily these days with OS/2 Warp 3 as an alternate (no OS/2
support from USR).

My old ISDN adapter is an IBM WaveRunner which only supports Win 3.1 (but since
IBM sold it to a third-party, they've been promising Win32 drivers Real Soon
Now). IBM's OS/2 support for the WaveRunner is terrible. The worse part is the
WaveRunner plus the NT-1 cost twice as much as the USR Sportster ISDN and does
half as much!

The B5 reference in Captain Power was just a nod to something I was
working on...and definitely shows that it was in the works as far back as 1986.

Yes, we have shown diseases, particularly in "Confessions and
Lamentations," a 2nd season episode. But in general, my sense is that the
biologies of aliens are sufficiently different to minimize most transmitted
diseases.

Rewatching "Walkabout" really brought home how much ironic foreshadowing there
is in any given episode, which is revealed only after viewing later episodes.
When N'Kal said, "If he's dead, he's dead," in reference to Sheridan, I was
struck by the knowledge that (given the history of S4:1-4), of course, when
he's dead, he's...not.

Also, I had an intriguing image of Vorlon society, based on "We are all Kosh."
I all of a sudden saw this vision of the bits of themselves that they send off
to scout the universe being some sort of inheritance to be passed on to another
Vorlon in the rare occurrence of a Vorlon death. In that fashion, given the
length of time they've been in existence, any given Vorlon would have bits of
many other Vorlons. So when the original Kosh's "Self-fragment" went missing,
it might have been an unprecedented occurrence which would be reflective of
"not reacting well to change."

The preceding image may have little or nothing to do with the Vorlons you have
created, but it was an interesting alien societal angle to ponder for a few
minutes...

We're actually doing a few small things via the B5 fan club. We just
Friday took delivery of our first batch of t-shirts made in-house: they have
the B5FC logo on the front left breast, and come in three colors...one in black
with white lettering saying "No boom today, boom tomorrow, there's always a
boom tomorrow" black for Ivanova's mood...a white one (for the angelic seeming
vorlons) with black lettering, "We have always been here"... and a grey t-shirt
with "We stand between the darkness and the light" (the grey here is obvious).

We should be releasing these shortly.

Joe,

Given what we know of the content of "Atonement," and given that it's known
that an actor has been signed to play Dukhat in that episode (presumably in
flashbacks), can we assume Mira is going to have to get back into that full
Minbari makeup again?

How does/did she like that idea? :-)

I suppose the same will be true of the movie, as you've told us it will
deal with the E-M War.

Thanks,
