Spoilers for War Without End and Ship of Tears
Spoilers for those of you who have the pleasure of being residents of the UK
I read that Strazinski said 1/3 of us are going to agree with the Shadows
vs. the Vorlons?!
That's pretty hard to swallow . . . . I mean *if it's true* that 1/3 will
go that way and back the Shadows . . . . that's hard to swallow.
Consider just a few of the major differences between them regarding how
they conduct themselves - - - -
//Manipulation//
The Vorlons manipulate younger species by appearing as angelic creatures.
The Shadows manipulate younger species by inciting them to go to war with
their neighbors.
//Spaceships//
Vorlons form a symbiotic bond with living space vehicle.
The Shadows kidnap telepaths to insert into psyber-spaceships. For the
telepaths it is a sentence to a living hell inside the battle crab.
//Tactics//
Vorlons are protective of their home territory; *no incursions* into other
species' space.
Shadows unleash unprovoked attacks of enormous, genocidal lethality.
Even supposed allied species are destroyed when the Shadows double-cross
them with an unstoppable assault . . . assault . . . assault!
//Attributes//
When a human (telepath or not) gets really close to a Vorlon: amazing,
enchanting, beautiful psychic communion.
The major characteristics of the Shadow creature (or their servants,
like Morden) when encountered by a human telepath: horrible, screaming
psychic revulsion!
//And only slightly off-topic; What does the fabulous Ambassador Delenn
have to say about the contest?//
Delenn has enormous respect for the Vorlons, and I'm with Delenn.
Delenn hates the Shadows, and I'm with Delenn.
IMHO, if JMS *really* thinks that 1/3 of B5 viewers will be sympathetic
to the tactics of the Shadows, he has a very low opinion of our moral
standards. I hope he is wrong, because otherwise *I* would be wrong in
thinking that we've been insulted, and that would mean that "The Shadows"
really, actually *are* here already.
I can't buy *any* plot twist that would cause me to stop wanting the
absolute extermination of the vile monsters that the Shadows have shown
themselves to be. I even don't care if JMS eventually, somehow positions
the Vorlons as a menace. Then I'll just withdraw my affection for the
Vorlons. The Shadows are *still* going down, regardless of what the
Vorlons may turn out to be.
I'm with Delenn, Sheridan, and Sinclair/Valenn.
Going on what I know right now, if it was within my power, I'd *never* allow
the Shadows to remain alive. And the only thing that keeps me from
saying that I could never change my mind *in any way* is that one of my
favorite observations about Life is . . . "You never know . . ."
But we have to make a stand for what we believe in. So . . .
Death to the Shadows!
Now, more than ever!
Blast Za'ahh'doom into dust!
Long live Kosh!
Keep it up, JMS! You are a freakin' genius.

Why thank you :-)

I think JMS was talking about the Shadows' motives rather than their
tactics...the end may justify the means.

Oh, but they *are* here and have been for along time. And it will take
a lot of personal integrity for some of us to admit even to ourselves
that we just might, sometime in our lives, have carried this little
shadow in our soul, at least until we beat it back down again. Somehow
I suspect that this is going to get people *really* thinking and
talking.
So, Joe, is this the aspect of the story that you were told you were
out of your mind to attemp to show on television?

It does...and doesn't...have anything much to do with morality.
It's...hard to explain until you've seen the last few eps.
And note, I didn't say *tactics*. I said *motives*.
