One innocuous question: In Z'ha'dum, were those Bruce & Melissa's actual
wedding photos, or were they special ones you had shot for the show?

One not-so-innocuous question: is it safe to assume that Anna, Morden, and
Justin were all roasted in the White Star blast?

In all, another even more-incredible show (I ran out of superlatives a long
time ago). The G'kar narrative was wonderfully dramatic.... so he'll be doing
the season 4 opening credits, eh?

(oh, almost forgot: did you get to see the AbFab stuff on Roseanne's Halloween
show?)

Yes, we used their actual wedding photos.

And I did see the Dynamic Druggie Duo on Roseanne (the only time I've
ever watched it). They were in fine form.

jms -

I found this one so intense that I cannot really even step back and view it
objectively.

I feel like a peasant must have felt in the aftermath of Arthur & Co.'s battle
at Camlann -- helpless witness to the breaking of some wondrous community. It
has (because it won't go comfortably into the past of memory) the feel of the
Camelot cycle battle between Logres and Broceliande (the Inklings' stuff, not
Mallory's). And no, this is not one of those "if x=Merlin, then Ivanova=y"
references. The B5 characters are too much themselves for me to play literary
card games.

"Z" had to have been one of the most intense hours I've ever seen on
television. Some of it was technical -- editing, CGI, etc. But the real
impact was emotional -- sort of Beethoven as opposed to Bach.

One small grief -- the immolation of the White Star. I know from other posts
that there are those whose interest in the WS is its strategic advantages and
its tactical abilities. But I can't get away from the organic origin,
intelligent component and avian form. The WS always seemed to me to be more of
a "noble steed" than mere defense apparatus, and I can't help but think that it
had some degree of acquiescence in its final fate in the same way that Sheridan
had in going to Z'Ha'Dum.
So I find that I grieve for its loss.

My reference has always been acting in community theater, so I've had the
experience of a richly-drawn character inhabiting my emotional landscape for a
few months at a time. I can't imagine carrying around ALL of theses
richly-drawn characters in the fullness of their stories over such an extended
time -- are there any words to describe what that feels like for you?

Vectoring off into a totally (and trivially) different direction --

I was surprised in your playwriting segment of your new book that, although you
mentioned generic local contests as a way to gain notice, you never mentioned
the Humana Festive of New American Plays. Since this seems to be one of the
most respected launch-possibilities into national prominence, I'd have to
surmise that you would counsel nascent playwrights to begin at a more modest
level before tackling the Humana.

-rje- I can almost feel the rustling-in of some kind of enchantment already.

Howdy, Joe;

I just watched "The Hour of the Wolf," and I must say I was very pleased.

You're right; That episode is just so damned *packed* with storytelling that
you can't believe you watched only a single episode. I found myself looking at
the VCR's index counter in disbelief at the thirty minute mark. "That can't
be," I thought.

And you kept the density all the way to the end. Bravo to you and your staff.

One question: Do I take it that you're going to hold off a while before telling
us how Sheridan and Morden survived? I mean, Morden said he was farther away
than the rest, but judging by his damage, he should be dead.

When can we expect some sort of answer as to how Sheridan managed to survive so
intact?

Once again, wonderful work. I look forward to the rest of the season with even
greater anticipation now.

Thanks,

  -- Brent

Thanks. I'll string out the Sheridan info for a while; as for Morden, as
he said, his associates can repair flesh, replace flesh (though where they got
replacements from is something I don't want to know)....

It's definitely a packed episode. I still find myself realizing that the
end of act one feels like two acts. And the next three are every bit as
intense, if not moreso. I love it....

                                                                    jms
