Mornin', Joe (may I call you "Joe"?) -
This may sound like a dumb question (especially now that I've started it
with "this may sound like a dumb question") but, if you had your
druthers, would you rather write B5 for a venue *without* commercials or
one *with* commercials? It seems to me that one has to structure an
episode differently in the two situations and I was wondering which
structure you prefer. I would think that not having to worry about
commercials would allow you greater freedom in how you divide up time
among individual scenes, for example, but, on the other hand, the
commercial breaks give you an opportunity to build to a suspenseful or
dramatic moment and then leave us dangling deliciously for a few minutes
before moving us on...

Without commercials is always a preferable format for one-hour. It's just
more intense that way. (But for something longer, some kind of break is
good, even plays break up by acts and intermissions.)
