First, the non-spoiler bit. I rather doubt that it's a coincidence that
there was a ruined building still standing in the middle of a plain of
desolation on Narn considering a certain Japanese memorial to the A-bomb
victims. Nice touch.

Now for the spoiler protection...

Okay. Was that a look of disappointment I saw on the Minister's face
when Londo came out on top of the Refa/Londo feud? He certainly seemed
less than enthused to have seen Refa lose to Londo.

I just though of another question, is Refa Refa's first name or last name?
One would assume that it's his last name since they were talking about
House Refa and House Mollari.

Wasn't it, though?

I'm not JMS (I don't even play one on tv :-) but it seemed to me that it
was the *way* Londo did it that bugged him. From what we've seen of the
political climate, the Emperor (sp? - that doesn't look right) is none too
steady on his throne. I think that one of the things they were *hoping*
to do was get the two primary houses competing with each other... rather
than getting their eyes set on the throne. Louis 14? (I don't recall
which one it was) did something simliar with the French nobility. He
built Versailles (spelling's gone to hell today) and required that they
keep apartments there. Of course, they had to pay him rent, too. Royally
dictated changes in fashion from year to year also kept the nobles coffers
too low to raise troops against the king. (French history buffs?
Corrections welcome - my last European history class was probably before
*some* of the people on this group were born. :-) I suspect that what
bothered the minister most of all was the relative ease with which Londo
accomplished the task at hand... not to mention the thoroughness and
*finality* of the plan. A weak monarch fears a strong noble *much* more
than he fears an outside threat.

I'd say it's his last name... even when he was Londo's 'good and dear
friend' Londo never called him by his first name. I think Londo always
knew he was working with a snake. He just didn't realize how poisonous it
was.

Not sure it was so much a look of disappointment as..."Okay, I know
something here isn't on the level...but he's got it very well
surrounded...and is it worth sticking out my neck to get into this?"

And yes, Refa was his last name/family name.
