One of the things that I have come to admire about you is how well you can
make a point briefly and how well B5 is edited. I also write in ways that
have time limits - though not as harsh as TV writing must be. I struggle
to edit things out after I write them - to cut words and thoughts in order
to shorten the piece. It is as if I am too emotionally attached to what I
worked so hard to write.

How do you deal with cutting material? Is it hard for you? I notice in
Lurker's guide that sometimes you have slid things into other episodes.
Any other way to use good material that has to be cut? Can you suggest any
strategies for editing?

Only one thing works, and that's to pretend the stuff was written by somebody
else, so you can take a fairly objective look at it and cut whatever's dross.
